Signet LocksA helpful guide to the most complex component on swing gates – the hinge – has been published by a supplier of locks, closers and gate hardware.

Signet Locks of Bognor Regis says hinges can be one of the most complicated products on a swing gate – with hooks and eyes, round clamp hinges, bullet hinges, flag hinges, butt hinges, C hinges and pivots among the variants.

They sent a guide with ideas of which hinges are suitable for which type of gate to Perimeter Systems Online, from large commercial gates to ornamental garden gates.

For instance, the most common hinge for a small garden gate is hooks and eyes, while bullet hinges or flag hinges are likely to be needed for heavy steel gates or doors, which are welded to the top and bottom of the door and door frame.

For a copy of the guide, visit Signet Locks or email Ian Hetherington on ian@signetlocks.co.uk.
